Two pets in one cross-stitch pattern
Short answer: use one photo where both pets are close together and both faces are clear, then make the pattern 120 to 160 stitches wide so each face keeps its detail.
One photo, two faces
Each pet needs enough stitches for its eyes and nose. With two pets side by side, each gets about half the width, so go wider than you would for one pet.
If you don't have a photo of both together
- Make two patterns of the same size and frame them side by side.
- Or combine two photos into one image in a photo app first, then upload it.
Different colours
A black dog and a white cat together need a mid-tone background, and enough colours for both: 16 to 18 works well.
